St. Louis Meditation Circle Monastic Visit by Brother Ishtandanda and Brahmachari Roberto. Oct. 9 & 10, 2018

“Every year, SRF monks and nuns travel all over the world, conducting a variety of programs on the meditation techniques and “how-to-live” teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda. The programs are hosted by Self-Realization Fellowship centers and meditation groups in the cities visited. In addition to public lectures and classes, the monastics conduct weekend retreat programs, group meditations with devotional chanting (kirtan), Kriya Yoga initiation ceremonies, and other inspirational events.”

On October 9th, 2018, Brother Ishtananda and Brahmachari Roberto visited the St. Louis Meditation Circle for an evening of inspirational talks, meditation, devotional chanting, and fellowship. Brother Ishtananda’s informal talk was extremely uplifting and practical. He tailored it to benefit newcomers, intermediate or advanced students and devotees of Self Realization Fellowship alike. Brother’s talk was preceded by a one-hour meditation that included periods of devotional chanting. The evening concluded with an informal gathering and fellowship with the St. Louis devotees.

“I would like to thank the circle and all who made this event with the monks possible.” Paulo C.

Fellowship and refreshments after meditation and talk.

Visit to Gateway arch before monastics’ departure. Bad weather was sure, but miraculously changed that morning of October 10th. Were we just lucky or did perhaps Sri Yukteswarji have something to do with it?

Pat (middle) turned out to be St. Louis’ tour guide of the century. He knew facts about city, county and the State of Missouri that would have dazzled mayor and governor alike.

A photogenic small group, although it was not an easy task to fit everyone into one frame with the arch.

A fact that becomes exceedingly clear in this picture.

Some last looks at the arch before strolling towards the river.

It’s a showdown! Brahmachari Roberto is counseling around 90 SRF groups in Brazil, Portugal and Canada.

Brother Ishtananda is in charge of the retreat center at Hidden Valley Escondido, California.

As we approached the river, Br. Roberto was asked to take a picture of the family to the right in this photo.

Everyone joined the conversation and Br. Roberto turned out to be quite an apt family photographer.

Rivers are said to wash away our sins. Visualize the wailing wake of all karma cleared, dragged away down river by these barges.

Brother is taking a devotional moment with Jesus Christ in the Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France. It was the first cathedral west of the Mississippi River, and until 1845 the only parish church in the city of St. Louis, Missouri. This was our last place before heading to the airport, where we bid farewell to our guests.

We would like to thank Brother Ishtananda and Brahmachari Roberto from our hearts for their inspiring and uplifting visit. Special gratitude also to our group counselor Brahmachari Matteo for his compassionate understanding and his skilled guidance. Jai Guru, Jai Guru, Jai Guru!
